For years, I've called it Recreational Embryo-Destructive Stem Cell Research (REDSCR), on the theory that the only reason to carry it out was that it's so much fun.
Now, others are picking up on that as well:

The video might be more compelling if its producers could actually tell the truth. Human embryos are not harvested to conduct research: stem cell researchers use embryos discarded by in vitro fertilization clinics. Stop human stem cell research today and you aren't going to save a single embryo, because IVF will continue.
So, I don't get it. I did a search of your blog and found scant reference to IVF. I don't understand the focus on the evils of stem cell research without equal time discussing the ethics of IVF. It sure is a lot creepier to me to produce embryos just to throw most of them away than it is to use those discarded for--I think--vital medical research.

No longer true, thanks to the new policies of the Obama administration.
As to IVF, I agree with you completely, but at least the point of it is to bring new people into the world. It does not always lead to discarded or frozen embryos.
