Another Important Difference

When Christians get offended, we just boycott the offenders' advertisers. Right, NBC?

But when Muslims see cartoons like these:

They react like this:

Any questions?

And the media tells us this isn't a religious war? Bullshit.

One thing that struck me about all these signs is that they look like one person wrote them all. Was there a group of European imams sitting around making all these signs and sending them off to the "hot spots" along with a stash of Danish flags? My local flag store just doesn't have a stack of Danish flags. Who knows? Maybe Beirut and the Palestine are more urbane than my li'l ol' rural NC city.

Paul, whatever bulshit u r. damp, if ever i get hold on u, be friendly warned, u 're dead before u kud explain urself. u sure have ur freedom of speech, but, damp, it doesn't mean u can insult other people's beliefs. be warned, u helmet!

Well, I always knew there would be death threats.

Frankly, I believe I've already explained myself, so I'm afraid that part of your threat is already voided.

As for the rest, let's see, you mention I have freedom of speech, but if everyone else can use their freedom of speech (including in the comments of this blog, a forum I provide) to insult my beliefs, but I don't have the same freedom, then I don't have freedom of speech. I didn't see you leaping to the defense of Catholicism or Conservatism, nor even the defense of the idea of an objective standard of morality when that was being debated here, so I'm afraid your spelling-impaired threat carries very little credibility.

People's beliefs have been being insulted in this country for a long time; you didn't stand up for the Fundamentalists, and you didn't stand up for the Catholics, and the Muslims have been the leaders worldwide at insulting some other peoples' beliefs, so it's not only too late but downright hypocritical to stand up now and complain about what the Muslims are getting.

I mean really, the New York paper that published a column a year ago on the 57 funniest things about the (then) upcoming death of Pope John Paul II now primly declines to "offend religious sensibilites" by publishing the Danish cartoons? The New York Times, in illustrating why it won't offend religious people by publishing the cartoons, instead prints an image of the Virgin Mary spattered with elephant dung?

You and the rest of the world have been happy to insult my beliefs and those of others, and so it's a bit late to offended on behalf of Islam now.

Besides, you pronoun-impaired, hypocritcal hot dog, I can see who hits my blog from where, and you aren't anywhere close to Illinois. So your threat is pretty empty.

That's some peaceful loving faith you've got there, sir.

It appears that you found my blog by searching on Yahoo! for "mohamad caricature", and that you are in the city of Irancheh, in Iran.

So is it just Mohammed who shouldn't be made fun of, or should no faith be ridiculed in the press?

If it's just Mohammed you want to protect, and you feel entitled to ridicule and even kill Jews and Christians just because they annoy you, why should the U.S.' war on terrorists not be expanded to all Muslims?

Why, by your lights, should the U.S. not start rounding up the free peaceful Muslim families who live in comfort here, and the authorities in Europe do likewise with their rioting Muslim neighbors and we keep working our way across the Earth until we get to you?

If you are such a violent and dangerous group that you hurl death threats across the globe with such abandon, why should the rest of the world tolerate you?

And why, indeed, should we not just start with Iran, before the death threats you so casually hurl across the globe become nuclear weapons that you hurl across the globe?

SIR, I AM A CATHOLIC AND A LOVER OF FREEDOM AS WELL AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT YOU HAVE EXPRESSED YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH: BUT YOU ALSO HAVE THE FREEDOM TO THINK WHAT IS OFFENSIVE AND NOT OFFENSIVE TO EXPRESS. EXPRESSING YOUR THOUGHTS IS NOT A BAD THING, BUT OFFENDING SOMEONES BELIEFS THRU YOUR FREEDOM DOES NOT SEEM RIGHT. THERE MAY BE OFFENSIVE THINGS SAID TO ALL OTHER BELIEFS AND THATS NOT YOUR FAULT. LET THEM THINK AND EXPRESS THEIR CLOSE-MINDED THOUGHTS. AS FAR AS I KNOW RESPECT HAS NOT OFFENDED ANYONE....

Dear All-Caps:

You're wrong. You don't show respect to a bully. You stand up to him. Not enough people are doing that.
