Rumours have been dropped into the Sci-Fi Heaven news box today of a possible Tom Hanks appearance in the next Star Trek movie. According to our source, should Erik Jendresen’s script be chosen for production (Paramount executives are rumoured to still be analysing the script), Tom Hanks has been penned in as a possible star.Fascinating.
Tom Hanks, one of the movie industry’s most desired talents, previously worked with Erik Jendresen in writing a teleplay for the hit mini-series Band of Brothers.
The move would be a dramatic one for “Star Trek XI - The Beginning” and feature perhaps the biggest name to move into the franchise since Patrick Stewart took on the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
I must say, though, that Hanks' appearance on Star Trek would make him the biggest name ever to do Trek.
No information on what role he would play, large or small. Still, he's done a lot of good stuff, not least including Apollo 13 and From Earth To Moon. I know that if it's done well, I'd very much like to see the return of Star Trek.

Well after doing fantasy with the Da Vinci Code movie it was time to move to SF.
Argh.
I'm having issues with Tom Hanks starring in the Da Vinci film, now he will do a cameo (or more) in the next Trek film??
I am at a loss of words.
More prayer needed.
You gotta know that Star Trek is not exactly a religion-friendly show, as much as I, or anyone, might enjoy it. From at least The Next Generation on, one of the "conceits" of their future is that humans have "outgrown" organized religion. Trek only deals with alien religions in any sort of positive fashion -- and not always then.
So, enjoying Trek inspite of this, I can't say that I'm bothered that Tom Hanks, having being contaminated by the gnosticism of The Da Vinci Code, will then go on to contaminate Trek.
